Rochester – F&M – Navy – Princeton - Rochester

February 5th, 2009 by Hameed Ahmed

What a weekend: Three matches and 820 miles on the road. That includes 20 hours on the bus, two wins and one loss for the 12 members of the squash team.

Well, we were actually lucky to get the 12th player with us: Joe Chapman had decided to go and watch a final of a pro tournament in NYC the day before and was supposed to meet us in Lancaster, Penn. He eventually did but supposedly it was a close call. He had forgotten his passport and tried to get on the plane in Rochester without it. The officials had not been too happy about a British kid trying to get onboard without any identification. “You are not a real person,” they had said. After questioning him for 45 minutes, he had to go back to school and get his passport.

We played Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster on Friday, then drove to Navy and played their team on Saturday. The journey continued to Princeton right after the Navy match.

On the Saturday night in Princeton it was time to surprise coach Heath, who had his 36th birthday (well, that is what he claims — the team is pretty sure he is 45). After considering some of the wildest birthday gift alternatives, mainly due to lack of time, we only ended up getting a cake for him. We will get him something better when he turns “37.”

Although Princeton crushed us 9-0 on Sunday, the weekend all in all was a lot of fun. The whole team would like to thank Frank, the bus driver, for tolerating us.

Trinity is coming up on Friday — see you there!

> Weekend’s rock-paper-scissors standings:

Matt Domenick — 4 losses (might be a new record)

Will Newnham — 1 loss

Hameed Ahmed — 1 loss
