Just four days after the historical team nationals, eight players from the squash team traveled to Williamstown, Mass., to compete at this year’s individual nationals. Only 96 of the nation’s best players are invited, so having eight players in the draw was a really good result.
It was a tough weekend filled with squash; many of us played five matches in two-and-a-half days, so there wasn’t too much time for anything else. Then again, Williamstown turned out to be the smallest city ever so there wasn’t really much happening, besides squash, anyway.
Although it’s nice to end the season at a prestigious tournament like this, most of the guys had a lot of other things on their minds, too. Yeah, school work in particular. After all, it’s probably the busiest time of the semester academically and having to spend two weekends on the road during a time like this doesn’t exactly help out in school. We always bring our books with us and know that we should work in between games. However, it is the hardest thing to force yourself to study after two five-setters and several hours on a squash court. All you really want to do is just have dinner, watch a movie and go to sleep.
Luckily spring break is only a few days away, and we’re done with squash for a while. We will fully concentrate on school for a week now and then enjoy a break from both school and squash.
I think the team has deserved it.
