The squash season is now officially over. Well, at least the college season. Some of us still have national tournaments in our home countries, and there is also a pro tournament here on campus in two weeks.
The Rochester pro tournament has been growing every year, and this year’s tournament is the biggest ever hosted by Squash Rochester. There’s not a lot of prize money involved in squash so saying that it is a $6,000 tournament doesn’t really impress anyone. But saying that six of the world’s top 100 players are there to compete in it should make you realize that this is THE opportunity to see world-class squash here at UR. And what might make it even more interesting is that at least four players from the school’s squash team are competing with the pros and challenging them.
So, although official team training is over for the season, many of us still practice daily and focus on the upcoming challenge. The tournament should be a fun time for both the players and the spectators. If you have a chance to come down to the courts between April 2 and April 5, stop by and experience some top-quality squash here in Rochester!
