The Nefarious Sushi Snatchers

March 19th, 2009 by Ross Brenneman

Hi-diddily-ho, good citizens, and welcome to the first-ever “Call to Question,” which summarizes the goings-on of the Students’ Association Senate meetings.

This week, Japan took center stage for a couple reasons:

JAPAN MATSURI, the resident interpretive fish-dancing powerhouse, received a “yes” vote regarding changes in its constitution, which now expands the group’s mission statement to serve as a general Japanese culture-centered organization. Banzai!

DID YOU KNOW? Fountain drink lids have been moved to the condiment area (near the cash registers) so that young vandals can’t cram Tastycakes into a cup, throw on a lid and pretend it’s free water. But, it turns out that some individuals have taken to opening the sushi refrigerator next to Blimpie, opening up the packages and dumping those wholesome round raw delights into cups as well. According to Class of 2010 Senator Eric Weissmann, it costs the school $1,000 per week. Makizushi for the win!

SPEAKING OF FOOD, a request by Salsa for $40 worth of food from Wegman’s drew the ire of Class of 2009 Senator Rohan Naik. How should SAAC dispense its funding? Perhaps Tim Geithner can just cut SAAC a check to go toward some Salvatore’s Pizza? Bailout for the win!

SPEAKING OF RUNAWAY PLANS, CTQ is under the impression that there’s a little more back-and-forth than might be preferable, but we have faith in the Speaker’s ability to bring any violators of Mr. Robert’s Rules to order. Still, Cider House > Robert’s.

CTQ would also like to extend congratulations to freshman Sumya Hasan, the NEW ELECTIONS CHAIR. A current Campus Times staff writer, Hasan will have to stop covering student government in order to work for it. As Class of 2009 Senator (and CTQ favorite) Janna Gewirtz cautiously reminded her, some government members are better at tabling than others. Will Ms. Hasan keep the ragamuffins in line? Bring down the hammer, Sumya.

ALSO, Committee Aide Kristian Brooks and Speaker Harrell Kirstein were both entertained by a rousing version of “Happy Birthday.” Brooks turned 19, and Kirstein was one day shy of 22. Let them eat ice cream cake!

That’s it for this week — adjourned!
