It’s election season at UR, and we’re knee-deep in would-be politicians here at Call to Question. But that was only one of the topics covered at last night’s Students’ Association Senate meeting.
ROLL CALL WENT SPLENDIDLY as every Senator was in attendance, along with Chief Justice Scott Group. Speaker Harrell Kirstein sat in awe — and wasn’t alone.
IT’S ALL GREEK TO Deputy Speaker Alvin Lomibao, who delivered a report on the activities of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Management Committee, which recently heard cases to add three different Greek organizations to campus. Mmm… gyros…
SAY IT WITH US NOW: SOO-MY-UH: Recently appointed Elections Chair Sumya Hasan dove headfirst into her new job, getting everything off to the right start, and securing headshots for the Campus Times advertisement. Between that and praise from Senator Daniel Cohn, everything’s coming up Hasan. Get out the vote!
DID YOU KNOW? There are now 13 organizations with preliminary group status, according to Senator Dennis Nave. Currently, 226 clubs and groups exist on campus. But how’s the attendance?
PSST… Raas wants to split from ADITI. Hmm, is there some kind of intrigue going on?
LET’S TALK ABOUT SEX: According to Senator Sneha Rath, condoms are now available in every vending machine. But you still can’t decline them — bummer.
JUSTICE PREVAILS as the All-Campus Judicial Council works to narrow down the nearly 40 applicants competing for six open positions. During new business, the Senate elected Senators Cohn, Janna Gewirtz, Rohan Naik and Sylvia Guerra to serve on the selection committee. And Nave and Senator Ezra Mechaber may be leaving the Senate for ACJC, if they nail the interviews.
BEST LINE OF THE NIGHT: From CTQ Favorite Gewirtz, regarding the need to be involved and enthusiastic about the election: “The biggest pool [of candidates] gets the best Senate… We need to do this.”
Jolly good, but it just makes CTQ upset that there will only be two more Senate meetings this year with the current officeholders. Still, CTQ looks forward to next week, as always. Meliora!
