As we do after every season, the UR men’s squash team had a season ending dinner and banquet last week. This was actually my first one ever as I couldn’t attend last year’s banquet due to a tournament.
I was expecting it to be a nice and memorable event but it turned out to be even more than that: An excellent evening with friends including some unforgettable speeches and moments with a great bunch of guys — I think that’s the night in a nutshell.
The most fun part of the night was to go through our season and recall the best moments of it. While many of those moments included actual matches, most of them were just memories of random things that happened on the road and within the team.
The hardest part of the evening was to say goodbye to our seniors, Ori Goldman and Dan Carson. As a team that spends a lot of time together and knows each other very well, seeing two friends leave to start a whole different life is tough. We are obviously happy for them, as they have completed their college degrees and are about to step into “the real life,” but sad at the same time for losing two extraordinary guys.
Regardless of the hard parts of the night, it was a real success and wrapped up our season well. Although we mostly looked back on last season, we already started to look forward to next year and agreed on our goal for the season — we all want to continue our run and win the national title.
I can’t wait.
