The Liberty League weekend usually means two things for the squash team. One, it’s the season opener, and two, it is the first team trip for the freshmen. Therefore, it’s a kind of learning experience for them about how certain things work within the team.
The biggest tradition and game played within the team is RPS (rock-paper-scissors). RPS is used for everything. Whenever there is something that needs to be decided, it’s done through RPS. Coincidentally or not, all the RPS’s of the weekend were lost by freshmen — mostly by J-P Gaviria. He will most likely — because of his numerous losses this weekend — pass on the tradition when he is older. J-P, I hope the cot wasn’t too uncomfortable and that there was still some warm water left when you got in the shower…
Another team tradition is the team-shout before every match. For three years, the shout has honored Yohay, our Japanese member of the team. But as he is graduating this year and we have four Spanish-speaking players on the roster now, so we’ve decided to change it. So instead of the good old, “One, two, three, Yohay,” we now pump ourselves up with an, “Uno, dos, tres, VAMOS!” shout.
If you want to hear the new shout in action, meet the freshmen and see some exciting squash, be sure to come and watch our match against Princeton on Sunday the 13th. The match starts at 1pm and as Princeton is the second ranked team in the nation (we’re third), this could be the most important match of the season. I hope to see you all there.

I always suspected it was “Yohay” that you guys shouted but wasn’t sure! This confirms it
But for now….uno, dos, tres, VAMOS indeed! Go Rochester!
