Winter Break in the Warmth

The team in the British Virgin Islands.

After spending 10 days on the British Virgin Islands training and playing, the squash team returned to Rochester early January to start the second half of the season.

This was a pretty unique winter break for most of us, as only a few guys went home to see friends and family over Christmas time. No one really complained about that though…

The trip was amazing and it worked both as a team bonding experience and as an effective training period. Although it was not all about training, we did get on the court every day in addition to running on the beach several times. Squash was definitely everyone’s top priority over the break as we were getting ready for the Yale match.

One of the highlights of the trip was the exhibition night during which we had a hit with the local community and eventually played a couple of matches in front of about a hundred people. Everyone seemed to be very excited about the team being there and we were welcomed there again in the future. Who knows, maybe this will turn into an annual thing.

When we returned to school, we started to get ready for Yale. Despite school having not started yet, we still had a great crowd following the match and cheering for us. As you know, Yale proved to be too strong and we lost 3-6. However, we are hoping to have another shot against them at nationals in a few weeks.
