React to the recently emerging plans to close the Physics-Optics-Astronomy Library in favor of a new computer lab. The University used to have separate libraries for many departments, which have been consolidated into larger libraries (Carlson, Rush Rhees, etc.). Do you think this was a good budgeting move or have we lost out on unique department resources?

It surprises me how people whose ostensible priority is the protection of “American values” flagrantly betray them. Politicians do it by necessity, since — as my grandfather used to say — politics is the art of mastering one’s circumstances, and we’ve certainly enjoyed a bumper crop of hypocrites in Congress lately.

UR Biodiesel, a project created by undergraduate students to turn extra fryer oil from dining service centers into biodiesel to fuel a campus shuttle bus, recently received the Excellence in Innovations for Sustainability Award from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI). What steps, large or small, would you like to see UR take in its commitment to sustainability?

If the University does move forward with providing chartered buses to certain areas, they should consider doing so to regions that are not located near major airports or transportation hubs.
